The trains suspended include 115-Up, 116 Down Night Coach, 117-up, 118 down Musa Pak (between Multan-Lahore) 5-up, 6 down Tezro (Karachi-Lahore) 131-up, 132 down Rohi express (Khanpur-Rawalpindi via Khanewal, Shorkot Jhang, Sargodha), 133-up, 134 down Abaseen Express (Peshawar-Rawalpindi), 171-up 172 down Sialkot Express, 23 up, 24 down Quetta express, (between Rawalpindi-Quetta via Multan.
The protestors laid in front of trains in Khanpur, Jehanian and Jhang to mark their protest, they also pelted stones on the trains. Police resorted to baton charge to disperse them.
Social circles alleged that transport Mafia was forcing the authorities to close profit-oriented trains and change the schedule of different successful trains adding to the miseries of the commuters.
They told newsmen that trains from Multan that used to leave for destination at 0650 or 0700 am or 0730 am in summer were now leaving at 0600, 0630 and 0700 am in winter while it must be changed at 0800, 0830 and 0900 am.
They said that Minister of state for railways Ishaq Khakwani should resign forthwith as a protest against closure of trains in southern Punjab and demanded for introducing another train between Multan and Rawalpindi via Khanewal, Shorkot, Jhang, Sargodha in evening.
